Book Blog Tour: The Finishing School by Valerie Woerner

The Finishing School helps people through different seasons of their lives through encouragement from Valerie Woerner. The chapter topics seem to use mostly modern day examples and the subtopics seem more textbook style to me. For instance, chapter 2 is titled "Worrier to Warrior / A Guide to Prayer" and chapter 7 is titled "Cue the Chocolate / A Guide to Habits". The information in the chapters combines both the topics and subtopics, using real life examples along with Scripture; the chapters also use research from books at times. There is a Homework page at the end of each chapter that shows how to pull up lessons and extra resources from the website or prompts you to get the lessons from The Finishing School workbook. Recommended books to read about the chapter topics/subtopics are also listed.

In my opinion, this book did talk about a lot of important topics that a lot of people go through. Valerie spoke a lot about her life, struggles, and challenges while at the same time giving encouragement to people going through the same kind of things. It read more like a memoir to me.  I thought it was going to be a book to help me graduate from some area of my life but I didn't feel like anything really applied to me at this point in my life, other then getting rid of some bad habits (like eating chocolate most every day and being envious at times of other people's lives). I could probably pull the book out at other seasons of my life and it might apply in some area(s).  I believe people going through about the same path related to the topics/subtopics in this book would benefit greatly from the information in it, especially women who understand motherhood might connect better with it than I did. I believe that it would help people to flip back between chapters at times, depending on what they are going through in their lives.

My review= 3 out of 5 stars (rating based on how I connected with the book)

I received this book free in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

The Finishing School: How One Book Nerd Began Living What She Learned
(Nyree Press, August 2015)

Are you tired of waiting for change to happen in your life? Do you feel stuck, even though you want to live more intentionally?

In today's world, our most precious pursuit of a life well lived gets squeezed out by the silliest of things: binging on Netflix or ice cream, shopping trips for things we don't need, bad habits we can't seem to get a handle on, and so much more. Valerie has been there despite knowing what she wanted for her life. Actually do it? That's the challenge.

After gobbling up all the non-fiction and self-help books her donut-filled belly could handle, she decided it was time to put her knowledge to good use and start actually living it out. You will hear about her journey through victories and plenty of failures and find practical tips to apply to your own pursuit of holiness. You will find homework at the end of each chapter that includes a worksheet to put real change in motion for your own life as well as recommended books to further study those topics that really test you.
