Book Review: If You Were Me and Lived in...Australia by Carole P. Roman

*****This review is meant for parents, teachers, and other people that work with children to read.*****

If You Were Me And Lived in...Australia is another great children's book in the Child's Introduction to Cultures Around the World series by Carole P. Roman! The book starts off by showing a boy and a girl from Australia pointing to where the country is on the globe. Children might be interested in knowing how large of a section of the globe that Australia takes up. It highlights the topics of the other books in the series, explaining popular boy and girl names, the capital city, a few popular things to do there, common foods, etc. The pronunciation guide in the back of the book alphabetically lists Australian words used through the story.

As an adult, I found it interesting that the country of Australia is called the "Commonwealth of Australia". That makes me think that the people of Australia and the country and continent are well protected and very orderly. In my opinion, the illustrations by Kelsea Wierenga in all of the books in this series bring the culture of each country more to life for children.

I believe that children in America that have this book read to them (or who read it themselves) will learn that children that live in Australia are kind of like children that live in America in some ways. For instance, the common boy and girl names are also names of some children in America. They also might enjoy some of the same kind of places that children from Australia might like to visit, like the beach.

I really like how common topics are used throughout all the books in this series because I believe that will help children to realize that no matter what country they are from that they share many common ways of living as children in other countries also do.

My review= 5 out of 5 stars

I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
