Book Review: Pepper Parrot's Problem With Patience: A Captain No Beard Story by Carole P. Roman

*****This review is meant for parents, teachers, and other people that work with children to read.*****

There is a new addition to The Flying Dragon crew. It’s a parrot who comes aboard with the name Pepper but later her name is changed by the crew. She is given a specific role among the crew that is different from everybody else’s. At first she has trouble fitting into her role among the crew when they are given emergency drills because she can’t get the directions right, this makes her upset and impatient. With help from her crew members she is able to follow directions as good as anybody else though. Pirate language is defined in one instance, where children can learn what a word commonly used among the pirate life means in English.

Usually new workers need direction and guidance, and I liked that Pepper was given help from her crew members when they saw that she didn’t understand the directions. I wish that Pepper was given more of a choice as to whether she wanted to change her name, because there was a reason she was named that, although she seemed happy with her new name. This book did a great job of teaching that we are to obey the orders of people that are in authority in our lives, whether it be teachers, parents, or bosses. It was great to see another addition to the Flying Dragon crew in this book that I believe will make many children laugh and smile while they get lost in the story!

My review = 5 out of 5 stars
