Book Review: The Crew Goes Coconuts! by Carole P. Roman

*****This review is meant for parents, teachers, and other people that work with children to read.*****

The crew on a ship is without anything to drink. The new goat that was brought on board by a member of the ship drank a double portion of juice, and they think it’s her fault they ran out. Some people on the crew start making fun of and bullying her, while others see her beauty. The Captain thinks of a creative way to stop the bullying, which shows all the crew members they have both strengths and weaknesses, which cause them to befriend the goat. Then the goat discovers something that will bring an end to the thirst of everybody on the ship.

This story does a great job of pointing out that it’s not right to make fun of others just because they are different from us. We each have wonderful traits, as well as those that need to often be worked on. It shows that we shouldn’t be people pleasers, just to make everyone we like happy, if the decisions are wrong. It also does a great job of showing that our needs will usually always be taken care of, sometimes in ways that we least expect them to be. The beautiful pictures throughout the book bring the story more alive.

My review = 5 out of 5 stars
