Book Review: ABC Hanukkah Hunt by Tilda Balsley, Illustrated by Helen Poole

*****This review is meant for parents, teachers, and other people that work with children to read.*****

The “ABC Hanukkah Hunt” is a children’s book that highlights each letter from the English alphabet while Hanukkah is being described. It doesn't always highlight nouns with the words that are used and sometimes examples such the “i” in “imagination” or the “x” in “extra” are highlighted. Each colorful illustration brings the story more alive with people, food, decorations, games, presents, and other ways to describe the Hanukkah holiday to children while they are learning their ABC's.

This children’s book is not like most ABC children’s books I have read to children in which they describe a letter from the English alphabet by using the first letter of a word of different food products and other nouns. Instead, this book often highlights the first or other letter of a word in different places of a sentence or paragraph. For instance, when talking about the menorah it focused on the “f” in the “Count the flames and you will see” part of the paragraph, and when explaining that sufganiyot is eaten during Hanukkah the “o” in the sentence “This one’s for me” is highlighted.

What a great way for children to learn their ABC's in a different kind of way than some children are used to learning them!

Created for ages 3-8, grades PK-2

My review = 5 out of 5 stars
