Book Blog Tour and Contest Information: Life with Lily by Mary Ann Kinsinger and Suzanne Woods Fisher

*****This review is meant for parents, teachers, and other people that work with children to read.*****

My Review of Life with Lily:

Life with Lily is a story about Lily Lapp and her family. It is told from the perspective of Lily, a five-year-old Amish child. The readers will learn how Lily handles an addition to the family, peer pressure, unkind people, and other family experiences. It starts off with a sudden visit to her grandmother's house; she doesn't understand why she and her brother are there and she finds out later when her dad comes to pick them up. It also shows what school can be like for an Amish child and how an Amish child may be given some small and bigger responsibilities to help take care of their siblings.

I have read many Amish stories that are told from an Amish adult's perspective but this is the first story I remember reading from the perspective of an Amish child. Some of the issues that Lily faced in this book happen in non-Amish families as well. There were examples of treating people with kindness after being treated badly, which is a trait that I think that Amish people model well, at least in the Amish novels I have read. The story came together beautifully in my opinion and I could not tell that this book was written by two different authors; the story didn't seem to flip back and forth between two different writing styles and it didn't seem like I was reading two different stories written by two different authors. It seemed like I was reading the same story told (or narrated) by two different people.

I feel that this would be a good book for both children and adults to read who want to learn more about the ways of the Amish. It would also be a good book for adults and children who love Amish fiction.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Litfuse Publicity Group for this review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

About the Book:

Book 1 in the ‘Adventures of Lily Lapp’ series.

Lily is six in this story, just starting first grade in a one-room schoolhouse in upstate New York. Her parents are busy building a farm, and soon animals join the family—Jenny the cow and Chubby the miniature horse. A baby brother arrives, too, which Lily has mixed feelings about. (She wanted a sister!) Aside from a mischievous friend like Mandy Mast, Lily is happy at school and even happier at home.

Trouble is brewing at the schoolhouse and change is on the horizon for Lily and her family.

Meet Suzanne:

Suzanne Woods Fisher lives with her family in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has one husband, four children, one son-in-law, a brand new grand-baby, and a couple of dogs. She graduated from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California.
