Book Blog Tour: The Pursuit of Lucy Banning by Olivia Newport
Deep within a society of wealthy family and friends Lucy Banning has a heart for helping orphans and other people who are not as well off as her family is. Lucy and Daniel have been friends since childhood but their relationship beyond friendship is something to be concerned about at times. Lucy is taking college classes secretly, which doesn’t make Daniel happy. He wants to get married sooner because of this, probably to prevent her from taking the classes. Will enters her life and she learns whether her life is safer with her long-time friend Daniel or a stranger. The maid, Charlotte is keeping a secret and Lucy comes up with a plan to help her since she will not be able to keep the secret for long.
I loved Lucy’s determination to be herself; she did this by attending college, being there for Charlotte, and by working at the orphanage when that was put on her heart. It was very hard to determine at points if Lucy was going to trust a stranger over her long time friend. On one hand, Daniel was a friend she grew up with, cared about, and who she probably couldn’t see past not having a relationship with even though he didn’t seem to want her to follow her heart. On the other hand, Will saw her worth and wanted her to be herself. Deciding between the familiar and an unfamiliar is a decision that Lucy had to make and I feel that she did it very gracefully.
