Julie Lapp had her mind set on marrying Paul Fisher, but he canceled their wedding date…again. Julie’s relationship with him is up in the air and she becomes unsure about her life with him, especially when she learns that someone in Paul’s family has something against someone in her family, which has influenced Paul’s thinking about their relationship. Julie begins to think something is wrong with her and wonders what the relationship break-ups mean and if she should keep giving Paul new chances; he seems to allow himself to become persuaded by other people to end his commitment to her. On top of all of this, the Bee Man is back in town and Julie wonders if he has something to do with all of this as well.
I like the gentleness of the Lapp family in this book. I also like their perseverance to get through tough situations with people who are not so easy to deal with. Julie’s father, Amos is in bad health and he can’t decide if it’s his time to go or if he should try to overcome his health problems. Mary Kate and Menno seemed inseparable at times and I love how Menno would tag along behind her at times. Fern is another person who comes into a relationship with the Lapp family; she isn’t well accepted at first but when people get to know her they realize why she acts so differently than most other people.
This book will probably help people to look at those who are bitter and angry from a different perspective. It is filled with people who are at different places in their lives; a lot of them have been heartbroken and have a hard time accepting people because they don’t want to get hurt again. This is a novel that most Amish fiction novel lovers will probably not want to miss!
