Lorinda: A Set of Six Books is a book about a young girl named Lorinda who likes to paint beautiful pictures. She travels into the life of the pictures she has drawn and journeys through a lot of exciting adventures. She goes to some interesting places and meets a lot of interesting characters along the way. It's hard to tell if she is really going to these places on her own, or if she is dreaming about going to them.
It was interesting to know what painting Lorinda would visit next each night and what she had finished painting at certain points of the book. Parents and teachers might consider talking with children before they read the book to let them know that this is a make-believe story and that children are not supposed to get up and do anything after they go to bed. Each story that is included seemed to be written in a way that builds upon the others or can be read in a different order.
This is a book that I believe can be read by any child ages 9-12 to help plant seeds for artistic abilities that they might have. I also believe this story can be used in art classes to motivate children before they start or finish art projects. I hope that the author will write more stories about Lorinda in the future.
